What is a SAP evaluation?
A SAP (Substance Abuse Professional) evaluation is a DOT-required assessment after a drug or alcohol violation. A qualified SAP evaluates your situation, recommends education or treatment, and determines when you’re cleared for a return-to-duty test. It’s mandatory before you can work in any DOT-regulated role again.
How much does a SAP evaluation cost?
Reset Road charges $450. That covers your initial evaluation, follow-up evaluation, and FMCSA Clearinghouse reporting. Many providers charge separately for follow-ups or Clearinghouse updates, so compare carefully before you book.
Is a virtual SAP evaluation legitimate?
Yes. The DOT has accepted telehealth SAP evaluations since 2020. Our virtual evaluations meet every DOT and FMCSA requirement. Major carriers accept them without issue.
How long does the SAP process take?
The initial evaluation runs about 60 minutes. After that, the timeline depends on your recommended treatment or education plan — typically less than a week. Once you complete it, we schedule your follow-up promptly so you can move to the return-to-duty test.
Will my employer find out?
Your employer already knows. DOT violations are reported to the FMCSA Clearinghouse, and employers are required to check it before hiring. The SAP process is how you resolve that record. Completing it shows carriers you’ve met every DOT requirement.
Can I choose my own SAP?

What happens if I don't complete the SAP process?
